Welcome to our region

The area around VERDUN/DOUBS is famous for many reasons; its main town, VERDUN/DOUBS, has a very prosperous commercial life with more than 40 shops and enterprises. There is a street-market on every Thursday.

As an important tourist attraction, the whole region has specialised in good camping, fishing, activities related to the river and pleasant country walks, to which is added the unique and peaceful atmosphere of the countryside.

Verdun sur le Doubs

At the confluence of 3 rivers "La Saône, le Doubs, la Dheune", Verdun is a paradise for fishermen.

Passing by the "Saint Jean" bridge you can roam in the old Verdun: where the ancient streets have, in places, maintained this medieval character.

A visit to the Maison du Blé et du Pain (the House of Wheat and Bread) is a must: retracing several centuries of harvests and bread-making.

Discover the hiking paths the length of the river, Blue Pathways for cyclists, and the local speciality: Pôchouse.

Fishing at Verdun
Fishing is one of the strong points of Verdun, from the banks or from a boat, by keen fishermen or as a distraction for the whole family; it offers highly beneficial conditions as three rivers, all of second category, mix happily their waters: the Saône, the Doubs and a bit further, the Dheune. The great silurid swims besides the bleak, carnivorous fishes and carps are abundant. Small fry fishing will take place in the small Doubs; the Saône banks offer a good walk along the towpaths and a small boat on the Doubs is a real treat. (lire la suite)

LA POCHOUSE VERDUNOISE
What about the gastronomic speciality? In the 16th century, when logs were floating down the rivers, hundreds of inhabitants of the little city lived from this trade and others activities related to the river; they cooked this now famous dish: ''la Pôchouse''. (lire la suite)
